Canadian Blood services inquires about a persons travels b4 blood donations are accepted. Explain why this practice can be classified as preventive.

Travel to certain areas of the world may expose people to diseases specific to or common in those areas. Therefore, by asking if people have traveled to those places, there is a greater chance of preventing the collection of blood carrying those diseases. A questionaire cannot diagnose any of those diseases, but only give an indication that it is a possibility.

My Mum can't donate blood because she was in England around the time of the Mad Cow Disease outbreak.
Its just a common preventative, to make sure they are not getting blood that could possibly contain disease and be transmitted to the recipient.
That is the rules in Australia, they have very strict guidelines for giving blood. Very sensible!
