Blood donations, I thought it was a joke but apparently not.?



Gay men are barred permanetly from donating blood. What do ya'll think about this? See the link below.

This unfortunately is another case of mythology backed by theological condemnation trumping science. Every organization dealing with blood supplies, most notably the Red Cross, oppose the life time ban. There are today sufficient tests to protect the safety of the blood supply that were not available in 1983 when the ban was originally imposed. To follow their logic they should also ban medical personnel dealing with HIV positive clients and many others. But since homosexuals are the "bad guys" in this theologically charged debate we reduce the available blood supply. It is no different than the 1950s white fear of getting a transfusion from a black person.
They are just trying to keep the blood supply safe from AIDS. However, this is not a good way to do it, since so many non-gay people have AIDS. Write to the government and voice your opinion!
Only gay men? Really weird. Since they screen the blood anyway, I don't see why any healthy person shouldn't be able to donate.
