KIDNEY DONATION?! Blood Types?!? |
Can someone who has type O POSITIVE Blood, Donate a Kidney to a family member who has type O NEGATIVE Blood???? Thank you so much. <3 as a general rule, a person with any O type blood can donate to ANY blood type. HOWEVER, there are other factors involved in matching a kidney, not just blood type. The simple way to explain it is that other proteins and genes must match to create a good donor match. consider also, that there are many other people you may match if you do not match your family member. Many transplant programs are turning to "donor trades" where a family member that does not match their own recipient will be matched with someone who does and the donors are "swapped" to the correct candidate. if you are thinking about being tested for donorship, I applaud you, it is a wonderful gift. Source(s): My husband received a kidney from his sister and a pancreas from a deceased donor. this information is straight from his doctors and surgical team. Please consult a doctor |
