Blood donation question ???????????????????

Just something I would like to know

If you donated blood and you may have been infected with hiv, hepatis

How would they know with someone say 2 weeks after an exposure as I thought you could pass it on but it wouldn鈥檛 show till after the window period.

First of all, 75% of people will test positive for the HIV Antibody Test within 17-20 days of exposure, 95% test positive by 2 months, and over 99% test positive by 12-13 weeks.

Blood banks usually use a different HIV test (that is, not the HIV Antibody Test) that can detect HIV sooner, as it is looking for the virus (or particles of it) directly.

They also usually use other mechanisms like heating the blood while it is in motion. Heat is an excellent way to kill HIV outside of the body.

Hope this helps. Source(s): HIV/STI Prevention and Outreach Educator x 5 years
If you may have been infected you need to contact them immedeatly. That being said if your just wondering I think they have pretty good tests now for this kind of thing not like in the 80's.
