Where do I drop off blood donations? |
I was recently in a car accident and had my life saved by means of a blood transfusion. The doctor told me that donating blood was vital to saving my life and I should consider it in the future as a way of giving back. I told him I would and Im a man of my word. A couple weeks ago I put a couple gallons of my blood into some ziplock bags and put it in the fridge. The next day I took the blood down to the hospital and they told me they don't accept blood donations. Now if that dont make a lick of sense. Thats like a church not accepting money. Anyway I was wondering if you guys know a place that does accept blood donations? Um, Mr. YOU DON'T EXTRACT BLOOD BY YOURSELF! How the hell did you do it??? I don't even want to know. Speaking from someone who has helped out at several blood drives at my high school, I know that you go to a red cross center or a blood drive and THEY take your blood. They do it with sterile equipment, special bags designed to hold blood and special needles. Prior to them taking your blood, they have to test your blood pressure, do a finger prick to determine iron levels, and do a DETAILED and LENGTHY background check to make sure you are safe to take blood from. You took a COUPLE GALLONS? They can only take a PINT of blood from you, and people pass out even after just that much. Another reason why they did not take it was because they have to time how long the blood takes to fill the entire bag, and if it takes more than a certain amount of time the blood will be discarded. They have NO idea how long it took the blood to exit your body, buy more importantly they have NO idea of your background, the iron levels and blood sugar levels in that blood! They probably thought you were a complete lunatic!I believe you can go to your state's blood services center (ex. NY Blood Services). THEY take your blood and keep it in case you get in to an accident. That's dumb. wrong way. call the red cross ( or the hospital) and ask when and where to donate blood. they hook you up there - their needles, their baggies. You have to go to an actual blood drive... where they will remove your blood, and get it to the right people... Check the newspaper for when this is going on...
