How low does your Hb need to be before they do a blood transfusion?

I have got severe iron-deficiency Anaemia and my doctor said if it doesn't pick up soon I will need a transfusion. I really want to avoid this, as I hate hospitals!

Im not sure but mine went to 4.2 which was dangerously low! I had 3 transfusions. My anaemia was caused by fibroids had hysterectomy all sorted now.

You may not need to be admitted to hospital they could do it as a day case.

Are you a vegetarian? Cause if your not than you need to eat very rare steak. Also heaps of nuts. iron tablets every day. You need multi vitamins. Anything that has iron. All good. Spinach. Vitamin B, C and D. All help with iron. Have the liquid iron if you can. Works better.

Generally from my experience as a cancer patient.. 11-13 is normal, 9 gets a transfusion out patient, and 8 if you are in patient.
