Why do Jehovah's Witnesses accept organ transplants, but not blood transfusions? |
I don't understand the difference. Can someone please enlighten me? People talk about side effects, and catching diseases, but in Australia, that risk is less than one in a million, as blood is so carefully screened. Don't organs contain blood? Or is it OK to have a certain amount? Do the rules also mean that you can't eat 'rare' steak? While the Bible directly prohibits the transfusion of blood, it says nothing about transplanting organs. (Acts 15:29) Of course, marrow used in human marrow transplants is from live donors, and the withdrawn marrow may have some blood with it. Hence, the Christian would have to resolve for himself whether鈥攖o him鈥攖he bone-marrow graft would amount to simple flesh or would be unbled tissue. Additionally, since a marrow graft is a form of transplant, the Scriptural aspects of human organ transplants should be considered. See 鈥淨uestions From Readers鈥?in our issue of March 15, 1980. Finally, writing in Harrison鈥檚 Principles of Internal Medicine (Update I, 1981, page 138), Dr. D. E. Thomas observes that 鈥渧irtually all marrow transplant recipients will require platelet transfusions鈥?and many are given 鈥減acked red blood cells.鈥?So the Christian should consider what additional issues he would have to face if he submitted to a marrow transplant.鈥擯roverbs 22:3. The Bible specifically forbids the use of blood. Think of it this way....when you kill a deer..you bleed it.....then you eat the meat....but not the blood. JOB 30:23 For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living. I didn't realize they did; I'm curious to see what some JWs say, in any case. Blood is dirty. The bible says no blood products. flawed theology supported by a haretic bible I don't eat rare meat.....and the rules that I go by for that is MINE.......the appearance of bloody meat sickens me! They now call it a 'conscience matter' to accept organ donations..still the operation must be performed blood free and there web- site reckons there is over 90,000 doctors on the list willing to perform these operations blood free. Because they are ruled by the Watchtower Society and they obey the rules Hi, I'm Saint Nearly and I'm holy, and I say it's all good. Blood and organs and all, as long as they're fresh and compatible. i did not know that they accepted organ transplants, but if they do, i guess that's hypocrisy for you. It is their organization who tells them what they can do and what they cannot do. It is really sad I think it's because they are so anxious to see their creator. Well, let them be. :) |
