Is blood transfusion during pregnancy a bigger risk than deferring blood transfusion untill delivery?

I am 24 weeks pregnant. My hemoglobin level is 6.8. Doctors have suggested me blood transfusion. There are obvious risks in blood transfusion. It is also risky to have such a low hemoglobin as 6.8. I want to defer the blood transfusion untill delivery. I want to know which is a bigger risk - 1. Blood transfusion or 2. Deferring blood transfusion?

I would be inclined to follow your doctor's advice. Your doctor would have a better idea of the risks and benefits to you and your baby than the people who answer on here. You should really sit and talk through them with your doctor, and ask about any other treatments that might be possible. Assuming you are in a developed country, the risk of catching a disease from the blood is very low due to the screening of donors and the blood itself - but I know there are other risks as well. Talk to your doctor.
