If someone undergoes blood transfusion (Platelets), would his DNA/blood type change?

If someone undergoes blood transfusion (Platelets), would his DNA/blood type change?

There is a reason why people are out there searching for people with a specific blood type. Blood transfusion involves giving the same blood of the same type as the person who needs the transfusion. So there is no such thing as giving, for example, type B blood to a type A blood person.

Giving a person the wrong blood type is fatal.

No.

Hospitals are usually very careful about giving you blood that matches your blood type. Also, blood cells eventually die, and are replenished by your body. Eventually, the blood you got from the transfusion won't even be in your body any more, so it has no bearing on your DNA.

DNA should not change. In some cases DNA in some cells may change due to ingestion of carcinogenic materials or due to exposure to radiation. But these changes are more of a mutation/damage and usually causes cancer/tumor.
I'd read somewhere that in Platelet transfusion, blood type does not play an important part (that was an enlightenment).

I have never heard of platelet transfusion capable of changing blood type. But then again I'm not an expert.

Wikipedia says bone marrow transplant is the most common cause of blood type change. A rare case had been reported where a liver transplant patient changes blood type after the new liver affected her own bone marrow and produced a different blood type.....

Hey...thanks for asking this question...I learned some interesting stuff trying to answer the question!

A person's DNA and blood type do not change from a transfusion. Generally doctors try to give patients an exact match of their blood type because the body will reject other types though type O blood works with all blood types (an exact match is still preferred)

no because the transfused product is matched according to the blood type.

not platelets -

I believe I heard someone (a child?) got a whole blood
donation AND their blood type changed
- for the better !!!

about a month or two ago

great question!

all the best

No, as this is fixed genetically. Only a genetic manipulation could (theoretically) change it.

No, it would not affect your DNA or blood type causing a change to occur.

No.

NO

Nope
