I had a blood transfusion do i need to be tested for HIV?

i had to have 6 pints of blood due to a hematoma after my c-section, do i need to be tested?

Yes. If I'm correct antibodies from HIV aren't present for up to 3 months. So you can't test if antibodies aren't there. Blood in the usa is not safe, but if you have to have it , you have to have it.It's a crap shoot.

It depends on where you got the blood transfusion. In the western world blood donations are very strictly controlled and all blood should be tested for HIV before being used. Be wary that some places do not get there blood from the country in which the operation is performed. In Ireland we got blood from the USA for years when they weren't testing it properly and loads of people got hepatitis. if you want to be sure then get the test, it can't do any harm.

You shouldn't have to be.

Blood is very strictly regulated, & the odds of you catching anything are extremly small.

If you are still concerned, then go get one.

you can if you want but your chances are 1 in a billion

anyway they check the donars for diseases

all blood donors are tested before they even give blood, there's no need for you to be tested
