Is there a way to bring up blood platelets without a transfusion?

My mom has liver cancer for about a few years now and just last week she was started on the second stage of the chemo. second stage and she is now having chemo treatments once a week and she is also taking neupogen now. she went in for chemo treatment today and they told her that her platelets were too low (at 10,000) and she may need a tranfusion to get her platelets back up. she wants to know if there's any other way to bring her blood platelets up without a transfusion. sorry if I gave too much information, I didn't know what information I needed to give. thanks

It helps to have as much info as possible, so worry not about telling us too much..
There is no quick way to get her platelets up in this situation without transfusion. Platelet transfusions are not risky or uncomfortable in this situation.

My mom's oncologist can give her some type of shots to increase her count but if the doctor is recommending a transfusion then I would guess the shots are not a option maybe the count is too low. My mom had 4 pints of blood transfused when she first found out she had cancer. She did great and was in no pain at all. Each pint took about an hour to transfuse. The hospitals do extensive testing on the blood that she will be getting! Good luck to you and your mom!
