Biblically Speaking, Are Blood Transfusions Wrong?

Hey!

This subject is a hard one to talk about. After all, we're talking about your life here. That's a very scary subject.

But, what about the Bible? What does it say about blood?

"The holy spirit and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to you, except these necessary things, to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled [leaving the blood in the meat] and from fornication." (Acts 15:28, 29; 21:25)

So, abstaining from blood was set out as a commandment, not only for the Jews, but also to Christians, after Christ' death. What does abstaining from something mean? Does it simply mean not to drink blood, as many "pagans" did? Well, think of this: If your doctor said you had a serious liver condition, and that you now must abstain from alcohol because of it, do you think that doctor would approve if you went home and, instead of drinking alcohol, hooked yourself to an IV filled with alcohol and pumped it straight into your bloodstream? Would that be abstaining, as the doctor told you to do? No.

So, abstaining from blood, as the Bible says, is not simply refraining from drinking it out of a glass, but keeping blood out of your body altogether.

What do YOU think of these scriptures??? What is YOUR opinion about blood transfusions? What do you believe GOD thinks about blood transfusions? Do you think HE approves?

Let's have a nice discussion, please, with as little sarcastic and cruel remarks as possible, please and thank you! Have a great day! And I can't wait to read your answers on this subject!

Luv ya,
Tashi :)

The life we have on this earth is NOT the REAL life.
We are living in Satan's system. If we lose our life in this system, God can restore it. Satan can not.
So it is imperative that we obey God. He said to ABSTAIN from blood. Even if it costs us our life.
Acts 15; 20聽but to write them to abstain from things polluted by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood.

Also the pagan religions of those times used blood in their style or worship to their pagan gods and warriors used to drink the blood of their enemies in the false belief they could gain their enemies strength.
things NOT connected with the quality of " love your neighbour'.

If you hooked yourself up to an IV full of alcohol, you would die.

If you want to keep blood out of your body, remove your bone marrow.

The Jews had absolutely no concept of blood donation and did not address the subject. It's like asking if weather satellites are biblically wrong.

Blind Freddy is right if it wasn't for Jehovah's Wittiness' there would not be the techknowlegy for the blood alternatives wich in my opinion are better than blood people spend less time in hospital and recover quicker with the alternatives I have had major surgery without blood trasfusion and the doctor were amazed at how quikly I recovered.

i dont think God considers it a sin to receive a transfusion as means to save your life. i believe those scriptures do refer to drinking of blood like the pagans.

No, I don't think they are wrong. We have one regularly at our Church. If God didn't approve I don't think He would have given the intellect to someone to figure it out.

No I do not think blood transfusions are wrong that was about drinking blood or eating it.

Your question is a little long so I didn't read any of it. So I will just stop there.

No, I don't believe blood transfusions are wrong..............

God Bless............

just don't see any basis for ruling them out...

no..

The Jehovah's witnesses are the only Christian group i know of that do not take blood transfusions based on the scriptures in Deuteronomy.

The rules in Deut. were written for a time when medical science was unheard of so it was important not to do or eat things that could make people sick . Hence the rules about what sort of foods they could eat etc.

Many diseases are carried by blood and ingesting unpasteurized blood can make you very sick.

In todays medical intervention there are non blood plasmas available for people who will not take blood , or have compatibility (blood type) issues.

In medical critical situations where parents have refused transfusions as a last option or transplants for their sick children quite often the hospitals will involve child services and have the children taken away from the parents until they have been made better. .

What is Gods view? Only he truly knows that. I would assume he would much rather that everything that was available to save a life was used rather than sacrifice a life for a 3000 + year old rule that has been transcended by humanities progress.

I don't feel that the scripture is a reference to abstaining from blood tranfusion. Blood transfusions simply didn't exist back then. When in doubt about the interpretation of a passage of the bible I look to other passages to weigh up the evidence. There are no passages that back up your assertion but then neither are there any that discount it outright (other than the fact that living is generally considered as a positive)

In light of no other deciding evidence I simply use my own morals, which in my case certainly allow for blood transfusion and any other consensual procedure which does more good than harm.

You cant always save a life but surely it is a sin not to try?

I'm not a christian as you know, but I still say what I think!

Didn't God say "treat your body like a temple"?

and If you refuse a blood transplant, and you get ill, or even die because of that, is that treating your body like a temple?

and no your doctor wouldn't approve of that, but, would he approve of you not taking a blood transplant if he asked you to take one?

also in your quote it says...

"The holy spirit and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to you, except these necessary things"

what does these necessary things mean?

Is it not necessary to save your life, if you need a blood transplant?

I just think, that God would never be offended if you took a blood transplant! who can it hurt? nobody!

and God didnt make us so that we would die if we had a chance to live! I think ive read somewhere in the bible that god says he wants his servants to be prosperous! and you can only do that if you take care of yourself properly!

bye =0)

Hi Tasha,

I don't adhere to the Bible. However, I think it was a smart move for the Jews to be so meticulous in dealing with blood. They were not allowed to drink it, play with it, ... ect. Blood can become contaminated and interacting with other's blood can put you in harms way. So back in the day, it was smart to withstand from it.

Today, there are many medical break throughs. Every 2 seconds, someone needs blood to live. I believe blood transfusions are relatively new idea. Today, other's blood can save a life unlike back 2000+ years ago. We can also test it for known diseases. Yes, getting a blood transfusion does have some risk to it; but many people are saved and few obtain rare diseases.

I am for donating and would receive blood if needed to. I still have a bruise from donating last week.
