Jehovah witnesses don't believe in blood transfusions?

Why not?

There can't be anything in the bible against blood transfusions because there was no such thing then. So,on what basis are they against it? I don't understand.

Because they believe that once blood is removed from the body it has lost it's purity or some such crap. I work in a hospital, and sometimes it is frustrating to help save the lives of religious nuts who won't concent to let us do our job...maybe they should just stay home pray and die then waste our time to begin with.

i work for a blood bank, Ive been told I am directly disrespecting god by interfering with his plan. I don't know much about the religion, but I have been approached/ accosted on more than one occasion and that is what I am told.

OK, whats with all the thumbs down? Are Jehovah witnesses simply reading answers and giving them bad ratings instead of giving a first hand answer that would educate us all? If it is then I shake my finger at the culprits tisk tisk.

How can you possibly come to the conclusion that "as many people die from transfusion as those to refuse them if not more?" That doesnt even make sense. How could more people die from transfusions then recieve them? Blood is a life saving comodity. Yes, sometimes disease can be passed through Blood. For instance hepatitis can take a year from the date of contraction to show up in tests but can still be passed, however this is why the Blood bank asks questions and deffers people that have a great risk of contracting these diseases. Its true that some make it though, but there is absolutely no subtitute for Blood, if you need a transfusion you will die without it. Millions of people are saved by transfusions. People with cancer, lukemia, heart conditions, serious burns. I understand that you think God is against it, so fine dont take it, dont use up our very precious blood supply. I dont even find it that bad that you wont donate, if I thought some God would punish me for eternity for soemthing like that I to would refrain, and it is not as bad as someone who is capable not doing it. But do you think that God would really look down on you for caring enough about another person to take an hour out of your life to save thiers? That God doesnt sound very loving. But whatever, I dont expect to change your beliefs, but please dont spread your lies because if anyone actually believes it, and you stop even one person from donating, you are killing three others.

If your doctor tells you to "abstain" from alcohol, then would you "inject" it into your veins?

We are very, very educated about refusing blood transfusions & just as many people die from RECEIVING blood transfusions as they do avoiding them, if not more!!!
We choose to avoid blood, but we accept all kinds of forms of alternatives that are MORE effective than the former anyhow!
Many hospitals & doctors understand our issue & conform to it, too.

Well, since they're paranoid anti-science cultists they feel free to take a verse in the bible talking about some issue contemporary to the authors of the bible and decide that it's *really* about some technology they have arbitrarily decided to be terrified of.

They do not because its suppose to stay in your body. I don't know the exact scripture. And they save themselves as well. They always cant detect HIV or Aids in blood and some people have contacted both cause of blood transfusions.
