Blood Transfusions in animals.? |
When a pet has a blood transfusion where does the blood come from? Are there 'animal blood banks'? And who brings their dogs or pets there to donate the blood in the first place? Also do pets have to typed and crossed like humans or are there blood types pet specific and not varied like humans? All i know about this is i think ferrets are the only animal with the same blood type. Any ferret can give another ferret a transfusion Yes, there are actually animal blood banks! A lot of veterinary schools do it, where people can volunteer to bring in their pets and have their blood drawn, and then the pet usually gets a treat afterward. well all i can say is when my pit needed a blood transfusion the vet took the blood from another pit that was staying at the hospital at the same time as mine. as far as blood banks goes i have never herd of them, i don't know where u live but here in montreal we don't have them the vets use what ever animal is in the hospital at the time, u know a cat for a cat and a dog for a dog and so on i hope this info helps dead animals with good blood?idk... but its a rele interesting question! srry i couldnt help :[ When I worked at the vet, they would get blood from the dogs they had there for adoption. Dogs and other animals do have different blood types, but most vets do not cross check which is okay to do the first time. |
