I am 5 months pregnant and I need a blood transfusion. Is it safe during pregnancy? |
My blood type is AB I am not sure if it's positive or negative. From what I understand I can't have my husbands blood because it will kill the baby. That's what the blood donor center said at the hospital. Another Doctor said I need someone with type O. I am so confused and what to make sure that my unborn child will be ok. If you absolutely need a transfusion, then you don't have an option regarding whether to have it or not. Your doctor would not recommend that you do something unless you need it during pregnancy. Your husband probably does not have AB or O blood and that is why you can't use his. Also if you are positive and he is negative, that would also cause a problem for the baby. The reason they say O is that is the international donor's type. A person with O positive can donate to any blood type that is positive. I am O positive and gave blood for many years, while able. Blood donations are strictly screened today and the chances of catching any disease through the process of receiving blood from the blood bank is very unlikely. Just get the transfusion as recommended by your doctor and you should be fine. Sweetie i am so sorry to hear that but I dont have a answer for you, i know i am O but im not sure if its pos or neg, i wish i could help more Ask your doctor. Don't rely on Yahoo Answers for something like this. Any OBGYN should be able to answer that question for you. |
