About blood transfusions? |
i had a complete blood transfusion at birth in the 50"s.can this affect me now as an adult? my father seems to think that the illiness i have now is due to the transfusions i had for 6 months, just curious You best bet would be to consult a doctor, however, depending on the type of illness you can make inferences as to whether or not the infusions were the cause. If the type of illness you have is one that takes 50 years to develop and show symptoms, then there is a chance. If you have something that would have immediately given symptoms then most likely not. Also keep in mind that after all these years, all the blood you had put into you has most likely been replaced with blood made by your own marrow. I REALLY DONT KNOW. CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR I know someone that had a couple of blood transfusions in the 60's that has Hepatitis C and has traced it to those transfusions. Have you had your blood tested? If not, consider it. Good Luck P.S. Blood was not tested for Hepatitis C until July 1992 and the disease can take decades to show itself. If you had a blood transfusion before 1992, taken blood clotting factors before 1987, ever been on long term kidney dialysis, or injected illegal drugs, it would be possible to have Hepatitis C. Notice that I listed the injection of illegal drugs last. I did that because there is a stigma attached to Hep C that only alcoholics, promiscuous people and drug users have it. Not true. Get tested. Good Luck You blood cells died off and are replace also daily. No I do not think what happen in the Fifties would have any bearing current illness. Yes it does my grandmother died of cirrhosis of the liver and she never drank (alchol)she got this disease through a blood transfusion that she received back in the days where they didn't check the blood well and 20 years later she just atarted feeling sick and from there on out it got worse and worse Im not telling you this to scare you Im telling you this so you can get checked for your health I wish you the best ! |
