What all do i needa find out before my breast augmentation coming up? anyone had one?

First off, I have to be honest and say that I do not like breast implants.

But, if you really feel you need them, get them behind the chest muscle. Breast implants will make it much more difficult to get an accurate mammogram, because they do not allow most of the breast tissue to be imaged. An implant behind the chest wall will allow more breast tissue to be seen on a mammogram than an implant in front of the chest muscle.

You can see the white implant on the images, and you can see how NO breast tissue can be seen in the area of the implant. If you have an early breast cancer growing in the area around the implant, it will not be seen on mammography. There are special views, called Eklund views, which allow us to visualize a little more breast tissue in implant patients, but a lot of tissue is still not visualized.

Another consideration...in women without implants, a normal screening mammographic study consists of 4 images (2 on each breast). In a woman with implants, we do 8 images (4 of each breast). The radiation dose for mammography is fairly low, but you have just doubled your exposure.

I urge you to do an internet search on "mammography and breast implants". You need all of the facts before you do this type of surgery. Best wishes....

You definately need to find a board certified surgeon-if you havent already(they have a website listing all of them). You need to have realistic expectations, know the risks,expect it to hurt, and ask many questions! Dont go by price-or try to "get a deal," make sure you find a good surgeon(you would spend alot more money on corrections if it went wrong) Anyways, afterwards just be really careful,use the instructions your doctor gives you to care for them afterwards!
