Breast cancer age?? + how to tell?

how young can you be to have breast cancer? and how do you tell if you do?

Breast cancer is mainly a disease of ageing.

80% of those diagnosed with it are over 50, only around 5% are under 40 and less than 0.1% are under 30. It's almost unheard of in under 25s.

The American Cancer Society and other cancer organisations recommend that women start breast self examination at the age of 20.

You can't tell if you have it, only medical tests can do that. Early breast cancer usually has no symptoms.

I gather from your Q&A that you're a teenager; your risk of breast cancer is almost zero and any symptoms that you think you have will almost certainly be hormonal. You should talk to your mother or your school nurse about any concerns.

** Lately whenever I give the age related statistics I've given here someone gives me a thumbs down. They are facts that can be verified by checking with any reputable breast cancer website (eg http://www.breastcancer.org ), any breast cancer charity or any doctor

Breast cancer is very rare in women in their 20's and 30's. If you feel a lump, it is probably a cyst, which can be painful, especially just before your period.

It is always a good idea to check with your doctor to make sure, however. Finding a lump wouldn't nessistate an emergency appointment but it shouldn't be put off for months. If it is something serious the sooner it is treated the better the outcome.

Your risk of breast cancer increases with age.
It is rare in women under 30 and almost unheard of in women under 20.
However, if you are aware of a change in your breast that cannot be put down to puberty, get it checked!
Breast cancer can be beaten if caught early, so don't take chances.

Breast cancer usually occurs in women over the age of 50, but some women do get it at younger ages. The only way to know for sure if a lump is breast cancer is to see a doctor and get it checked out.

i think it can happen at any age and definitely go to the doctor if you have any lumps in you breast or fell any thing unusual...
