Is it true that Sheryl Crow stated she got breast cancer from warm bottled water left in her car?

I don't believe it, but the story has been circulating! Can bottled water really cause cancer? I know there are a number of factors...but did she even say how she got breast cancer?

You are right not to believe it, it's an urban myth/legend started and spread by a hoax email.

These links give the facts behind these and other rumours/hoaxes about plastic water bottles and breast cancer. Sheryl Crow is supposed to have said on Oprah that this is what caused her breast cancer - as you'll see from one of these links, Oprah Winfrey's company, Harpo, denies that Sheryl Crow ever made those remarks:

Nobody knows what causes breast cancer, and reputable breast cancer websites and charities do not list plastic water bottles - warm, frozen or tepid - as a risk factor. As people whose life's work it is to research such things don't know what causes breast cancer, there is no way that Sheryl Crow can know what caused hers.

Edit* Tania's 2nd mom, it's a matter of public record that Sheryl Crow had breast cancer and yes, she has given interviews about it including the one that resulted in the misunderstanding about plastic bottles.

Sometimes people need to be a little less quick to hit that thumbs down button...

She's never once said that and I can't believe anyone would actually believe that. She doesn't know how she got cancer, just that she's older. Also, having kids at an older age, not breast feeding or not having kids at all is included in the risks for developing breast cancer.

Tania's 2nd, she's given interviews about her breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy and radiation. Guess she didn't want to lose her hair, so no radiation. She needs to keep a close check on her situation, in case there's one cell they didn't find.

Those tabloid stories are so unreliable. It was probably written this way. "While on her way to the hospital for her yearly mammogram, Sheryl Crow was seen drinking only bottled water...." Big deal. These people can do the least of anything without it being made public. Do they know for sure if it's breast cancer she has? Or will there be other stories going around that her cancer is of another kind. Until I see and hear her on an interview, I wouldn't believe anything you read or hear about a celebrity. Trust only their word. Besides, is there anything that can't cause cancer these days? It seems everyday, scientist have discovered something else can cause cancer.

Geez, so many people believe this and it's completely not true. My father worked in a plastic factory for 20 years and he knows everything there is to know about plastic and he said that does not happen. There is a type of plastic that does this, but it is NOT the type of plastic that is used in water bottles.

When plastic bottles with liquid in them are left in a hot place and you go back and start drinking it again, some kind of toxin or substance gets into the water from the plastic and yes, causes cancer. I've heard lots of stories like this, but you can't always trust what people claim.
