Is 12 years old too young to have breast cancer? |
I'm 12 and I'm scared i have breast cancer. My grandma has it and now she has it in her lungs too. I'm just scared the genetics will pass on to me and i will get it? Please Help? Less than 10% of breast cancers are hereditary. Your grandmother having breast cancer does not increase your risk for it. It is very rarely hereditary and of those that are they are diagnosed under 45 years of age. Self breast exams are not recommended at your age. They are a waste of time and a likely source of unneeded concern due to the changes that occur at your age. 0.1% of all breast cancers occur in women under 30 years-old. It is almost unheard of in a person in their 20s. I work with a lot of doctors at several hospitals and not one has ever seen a teenager with breast cancer. the way breast cancer is showing up in women today it might be possible for a 12 year old to have it although it is VERY unlikely but i advise you do a self examination and if you still seriously think you have it(not just because of genetics) then you should see a doctor Try this self exam. im no doctor but i dont think you can get it at 12 well i am 12 but just to make sure tell a parent or sum 1 you trust or check urself for bumps or go to tha doctors Aw, sweetie I'm sorry about your grandmother. Right know since your breasts are not fully developed you probably don't. Still go to the doctors for a regular check up. |
