Breast Cancer reconstruction surgery l? My wife had this done. What the do is cut out around the nipple and remove all the breast tissue. Then usually they go in under the arm laproscopically and remove some or all of the lymphnodes. Reconstruction is usually done either by a flap or implant. In the flap procedure, they take tissue from either the stomach or lower back, move it up underneath the skin with the blood supply still attached, and use that to reconstruct the breast. Be prepared for 4-6 weeks of recovery. After most of the scarring heals, most plastic surgeons wait a year, they will reconstruct the nipple and color it.
