Breast Reduction & Cerebral Palsy?

My sister is 32 years old & has cerebral palsy. She was overweight for many years and recently lost a lot of weight by steady diet & exercise. However, she remains extremely top heavy. It is effecting her posture & she sometimes complains about her back hurting her.

Since she is handicapped, and the procedure is not for cosmedic reasons, do you think a basic insurance will cover a breast reduction? Is anyone familiar with a similar situation?

Yes. My good friend had no other physical illnesses, except her breasts were causing backaches and large indentations in her shoulders from her bra. When she was 21, the insurance paid for breast reduction based on medical need, that of her back aches. With your sisters condition, it seems like the less weight she is carrying around, the better her symptoms of CP will be (as far as balance, etc...not the disease, you know what I mean) Definitely go for a consultation, get the dr's recommendation and let his/her office notify the insurance. I am sure the dr will confirm medical necessity. My friend that has CP is a male...so sorry I cant help with exact issues.

I would check into it if it really is bothersome for her, it may be covered for health reasons. Getting a breast reduction is not necessarily a cosmetic procedure.

im not familiar with the situation...but i suggest u do whatever it takes to make her feel better.

i think that the insurance would cover it. but im not too sure.
