What can cause breast nipples to rot after a medically necessary breast reduction?

Tissue death is necrosis. It happens when tissue is denied blood and therefore recieves no oxygen. I hope this is not something you are experiencing. If you are experiencing it please read this and go to the nearest E.R. That type of a localized infection can not only kill the tissue but can set up infection that will go to your blood stream. Please get help!

Decreased blood flow to the area. If the nipple was detatched during surgery (which is done quite often so that it will be in the correct position after surgery), when it is reatatched the blood flow might not be as good as it used to be. That can cause the tissues to die or lead to infection.

If you are a smoker, this can cause rotting of the tissue. Smoking delays the healing process, that is why you are to stop smoking at least 3 weeks prior to the surgery and 2 months post.

Oooooh, I saw this on one of those A&E Medical shows...... if the nipple is not attached properly to continue getting the blood supply, then this can cause it to decay.

Lack of blood flow to the tissue of the breast nipple after replacement. This does happen on rare occasions.

I have never heard of this happening. Call your doc immediately. This sounds like tissue is dieing which cannot be a good thing.

Bloodflow is cut off. The doctor did not do the surgery right. This needs to get corrected asap. It could turn into gangrene.

Lack of blood supply to the nipples.
