Question about breast reduction and health insurance? |
I had my first baby last year and my breast were already a size 38 DD and after I had my baby their now a 44-46 E or F. I live in NJ and have state medicaid UHP insurance. What would I have to do to get them reducted? Who would I first have to see? My back, neck and shoulders hurt all the time! I hope to god medicaid does not pay for it. I want my tax dollars to pay for crippled children and the elderly who don't have the money for their health care. Something like this should be at the end of the line. i live in sc had the same problem and had state medicaid. I had to go to my primary they reffered me to a plastic surgen and went to that appt. they had to take pics of me to prove i needed the procedure. they sent everything to medicaid to approve. Once it was approved they scheduled. It's been two year since an i couldn't be happier lol I would go to your regular doctor, tell him your problems, and get referred. In most cases, you have to prove to your insurance that this surgery is medically necessary in order to get them to cover it. Your surgeon would probably write a statement, take pictures, etc. and show evidence that this is really a problem for you. For example, I have the same problem and am looking into reductions...I would be making sure my insurance know that I pretty much cannot exercise at this point because my boobs hurt my back so much. Additionally, I get strap indentations on my shoulders from my bra digging in. Another thing they consider is your weight and if a lot of that weight in the breasts is due to being overweight. Basically you and your surgeon just have to make a case to your insurance company. Good luck! i have back pain from mine too, so i feel your pain...like the first person said, you'd have to see your primary caregiver first and then they can refer you somewhere. but even then health insurance won't always pay, so ask your doctor if he thinks that insurance will help since there is actually a health problem in this situation My wife recently had her breasts reduced due to her back problems. She saw her primary and then was referred to a plastic surgeon. Not sure how your insurance would cover a procedure like that, but my insurance covered almost 100%. Talk to your family doctor and a PS that is under your health care insurance. Unfortunately getting a breast reduction is an "optional surgery" and no insurance will cover that. They will however probably send you to doctors to help with your back and neck pains. Probably best to do some homework about your confusing area. Here is a great start point.http://health-insurance.expert-tip.info/... I would think your primary doctor would be first then they would refer you to a specialist. Don't get them reducted, it's not worth it. Don't get them reduced.. Keep it nature.. see your doctor for back pain and neck pain. Give some of them to me!!!!!!!! :) |
