HI i was wondering how to go about getting breast reduction...?

im 5'2" and weigh 116 pounds and i have 34D cup breasts. im 18 and wonder how to find out if inscurance will cover it if not how do you pay off sugurys? can you get like a monthly bill plan? i despretly want this because i feel it would help me tremendously i have back pain and the worst self esteem imaginable no one understands how much i hate it and how much it hurts to deal with. plz give me any info or tips you have. thank you

If you can get a doctor to say that it is a health risk, the insurance will cover it; otherwise, they consider it "elective" surgery and will not cover it

Hi, my name is Tiffany, and I actually had a breast reduction when I was 21 years old. I am only 5 foot, about 120 pounds and had 38dd breasts. I was desperate to get rid of some of the excess weight because my back was killing me. I think every insurance is different, but what I had to do was go to my primary doctor first for a referral, and to see about different surgeons in my area. The doctor will be very helpful in helping you find a proper surgeon that you are comfortable with. My doctor gave me 3 different surgeons. I suggest you pick a few different ones and go to a consultation with each one of them to see which one makes you the most comfortable. After your consultation the surgeon will have you write a letter to the insurance company explaining why you need the surgery and why it would benefit you and what problems that you are having. Once it is approved the surgeon will take pictures of your breast and different angles and discuss with you the different methods of the reduction. Trust me, I went through the same thing you are going through. I got made fun of all the time, my self esteem was low, and I hated it. If your insurance covers the surgery, the only thing you will have to be is the co-pay that may be 100=300 bucks, but you are saving close to 10,000 so that is a small price to pay. Good luck, and I hope this helps. By the way the recovery is a little painful but so worth last stitch I had.

i was 5'1", 120 lbs, with 32DDD/E breasts and it took me 5 years and 3 insurance companies to finaly get approved. the first 2 denied me because i wasn't big enough despite fighting with the insurance company and sending them lots of documentation from my doctor. i suggest making a consultation appt with a plastic surgeon. i am not a 32C and love it!

I had a reduction when I was 19. First of all, call your insurance and find out the coverage on the procedure. Then, if you need a referral, get an appointment with your primary doc and get that. They should refer you to someone in network, but, call them to be sure before you go.
The plastic surgeon will examine you and take pictures which he/she will then send to your insurance for approval. Kind of mortifying to know pics of your boobs are being sent through the mail, but, they will need to see them to determine if they will cover it or not. My insurance covered it 100% :)

I can understand why you would want to do it.

First be sure that you research the surgeon and find one with a good success rate and has no or very few situations with nerve damage (you do not want to lose feeling). Also check with the state physicians board and his specialty association to see if he is a member in good standing.

Then you can most likely talk with the office staff about a payment plan. It is worth doing your homework. If you are persistant you will find a good solution.

Best wishes.

I had a breast reduction when I was 17 because my breasts were causing back problems. If you present this to your insurer they should cover you if not then you'll need to get a loan for the surgery and pay off the loan.
