Breast reduction question?? |
I am 37 weeks preggo and my breast are not sore. WHen I had my breast reduction at 16 they told me that it was a possibility that I could not breast feed, but I couldnt find out until I actually had to. Is my breast not being sore an indication that they removed my milk ducts? Any help or stories are appreciated!! Breastfeeding After Reduction: http://www.bfar.org Is it Possible to Breastfeed after Breast Reduction Surgery? http://bfar.org/possible-reduction.shtml... http://bfar.org/prepare.shtml You will most certainly have the ability to breastfeed, although there is no way to know if you will have a full milk supply before your baby is born. Most mothers who have had breast and nipple surgeries *do* produce a significant quantity of milk, but not all have a full milk supply. Although ducts may have been severed during the surgery, over time many of those ducts grow back together. This happens at an accelerated pace under the influence of pregnancy hormones, so this pregnancy and any other previous pregnancies (after the surgery) may have prompted least some of your ducts to grown back (recanalize). It generally takes about five years for nerves to grow back to significant or full functionality. No, it is not necessarily an indication. Ask to speak with a lactation consultant at the hospital. They know how to work that out. No. With my first pregnancy I did not experience any breast soreness or tenderness at all. I would not worry to much about it. Just make sure that when you have your baby you put him/her to the breast right away and let the baby suckle for as long as he/she desires. Good Luck! Girl you must have had some big boobies at 16 if you gottem reducted then. Oh well your kid will just die without food. boo hoo. I'm 4'3". haydfasjtfgrewd my breast never got sore or even tender with my first child until after i gave birth .. but it is something to confront a doctor about ... you should have some type of leaking from your breast if not than it is most likely you will not be able to breast feed ..and the leaking should be an off white color.. at 37 weeks something should be known your doctor should be able to tell you .. if not talk to another doctor .. Maybe, maybe not. Depends. The hormonal changes and surges cause the breast to swell and prepare for breastfeeding. Whether or not are able to breastfeed can only be assessed when the time comes to actually do it. Consult with the lactation specialist or La Leche when you give birth. They can help. Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy! Nurse Practitioner |
