Breastfeeding with teeth?

I've heard that many babies will bite from time to time. Is there a possibility of, laughable though this may sound, serious nipple damage? Is it easy to stop the baby before they hurt you too badly?

Please do not listen to those posters who say you should wean when your child gets teeth. It is not necessary at all! If your baby bites, you should be able to easily teach him not to. Every time he bites, you remove him from the breast and say "No!" (no need to yell, just nice and firm). Then, re-latch. Repeat if necessary. Should not take more than a few days at most. Also, this is easiest to do before the teeth fully come in (and less painful too). I would not worry about serious damage.

They are capable of biting through the skin... which makes breastfeeding very painful.

Once the baby hsd teeth, it is time to wean him.

To answer your main question - no, a baby will not do serious nipple damage they bite you while nursing. It hurts, and it may bleed. But, they are not going to cause any permanent damage. You can also quickly teach your baby that biting is a NO. And, no, you don't have to wean your baby just because it has teeth.

wean da baby if he/she is already bitting

i have teeth, and hardly any nipples have suffered irreparable harm by them.

I breafed my daughter till she was one, and like the last 5 months she had teeth...she only bit me once and man did it hurt! but I think for the most part your baby knows not to bite...and if they do bite then you have two choices, either deal with it ((I don't mean that to sound mean)), or pump the breast milk out and serve it in a bottle.

You can still nurse when your baby has teeth. If he bites, he isn't eating and take it away. When he is nursing, his tounge covers his bottom teeth and prevents him from biting. He can hurt you, but I have not heard of permanent damage. Just don't allow him to continue biting you.

It can be painful if they bite you, when they first start getting teeth I usual keep my hand nearby to detach the baby from by breast quickly if I feel them bite down. You do this but inserting your finger into the corner of their mouth to break the suction. Alot of time when the baby falls asleep on the breast they will beging to quiver their mouths and with teeth in this can be painful so I will quickly detach them if they fall asleep. Your nipples will 'callus' to the pain of teeth. I used the term lightly because the nipples will not get hard callus' like hands but they will sorta numb to sensation of teeth. After your done nursing the sensitivity usually comes back after a little while.
