Breastfeeding populations?

does anyone know which cities in the u.s or states have the highest breasfeeding populations. i swear i must live in the state that has the lowest. when i breastfeed in public people act like they never even knew milk came out of those things. stupid redneck hillbillies.

i really wasnt asking what peoples opinions were about breastfeeding in public. i am proud to breastfeed and while i might get a few dirty looks i'm also being an example that breastfeeding is natural and you can choose to breastfeed and not be a prisoner in your house. the only reason people are uncomfortable is because they are not used to it. if more women breastfeed in public then maybe more people will become use to it.

before i breastfed i would kind of feel uncomfortable around a women breastfeeding becuase i thought that she felt uncomfortable and i was worried that i would make her feel weird or something.

http://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/data/NI...

i live in VA and i think the rates are starting to go as more younger mothers breastfeed- at first people were really surprised that i breastfeed since i was 19 when i had my son- i am 20 now still nusring my 11 month old and they are surprised that i still am

so far, washington state has the highest breastfeeding rates at 89% to start with

i dont even see waht teh big deal is. why does it make people feel uncomfortable- my fiance's cousin siad he just used to feel uncomfortable because he thought the woman thought he was staring lol- some people are just cuirous though. i do it anywhere if theres a place to sit- don't care if people stare, i jsut DARE them to say anything rude

>jen>- would you eat in a restroom? i would never even take my infant in one of those- disgusting i bet your views will change when you decides you shouldnt stop your life for other peoples ignorance- its breast for only feeding- its sad that someone has to leave their family from dinner to feed ehr baby- it should be a FAMILY meal

EDIT!!! why not PUMP? because i chose to breastfeed and that's what i'll do- my son wouluddnt take a bottle from me and would scream a restroom is dirty and i dont think they have dressing rooms at restrauntsso i WILL breastfeed in public- and about the modesty thing- people way back when werent modest- women in africa still walk around with their breasts out feeding their children, no one even notices there-

goodness! where do you live. People stare at me too, I live in Dallas. Maybe it's because I live in the cosmetic surgery capital of the southwest and people have forgotten what these things are really for!!!!

Only once though has anyone actually got up and moved away and said anything.

Out and open all the way!!!!

LMAO!!!! That is so Funny!!! I do not know what states or cities have the highest breastfeeding populations. We all know that it is something that has been done forever but I know in the past that breastfeeding dwindled to very little women doing it and now more women are trying to do it or actively doing it more. Which is great!! I am one of those women. However you will get some people who are so against it which I have found when I breastfed 3 1/2 years ago and now with my son who is almost 1. I hope some day here in the US mothers will be able to breastfeed their babies without anyone commenting on it or giving dirty looks.

Well, I have to admit that a breastfeeding mother does catch my eye in public.... only because I practically NEVER see it happen. Please don't automatically assume someone is looking at you in a negative way. I have noticed also that people stared at me a lot when I was pregnant... and now people stare at my baby. People just like to stare. LOL

I'm now proud to live in Washington State. I didn't even think about nursing my son and I never got weird looks or anything! When I nursed in public (did it often!) I always felt so much freedom to be able to go wherever and not worry about when he would get hungry.

I always felt a bit cold, so I would rather nurse in my warm car or the nursing lounge in the mall (they keep it warmer than anywhere else). I think I nursed a couple of times in my car as there was nowhere to sit inside the grocery store, lol. I remember once, when we were trying on clothes I nursed my son in a changing room, lol. Another time on a bench inside Target. I nursed him inside a fairly fancy seafood restaurant in Seattle, no one even gave me a second look! Just for some examples, I nursed for 13 1/2 months, so I'm sure there are more.

Other than that, my son's needs come before any dirty looks I could ever get. In the U.S. it's against the law for anyone to do anything to you for nursing in public (it's excluded from the 'indecent exposure' law.)

I would never EVER nurse in a dirty bathroom, do you know how many germs infest those things?! I'm sorry, but it's just not hygenic to nurse in a restroom! *gross shiver* You should not be ashamed to nurse your child... ever anywhere, don't ever let anyone make you feel bad!

How sad to think that women have to hide themselves in a public restroom in order to do the most natural thing they can for their baby!

I nurse in public all the time. I don't give a rip what others think, but I do try to keep it decent. I've got a wonderful invention called a "Hooter Hider". It is kind of like an apron that you put over your neck. It conceals the baby and your breast. Many people have talked to me without knowing I even had a baby with me!

I refuse to go to a bathroom when my baby needs to eat. If someone were to suggest that I'd ask them to take their plate into the restroom and see how they like eating their dinner with the toilets!

well it looks like someone found a good website with info you are looking for

yeah and it's still a fact that southern states and families with lower socioeconomic status are much less likely to breastfeed

i like hooters

I think doing it in public can make people feel uncomfortable.. although it's the most natural thing you can do. I always do it in private - like a restroom or fitting room. If you are going to do it in public, your putting yourself out there for critisism.

I dont have children, and I would love to breastfeed, but people that do it in the open are just asking to be judged. Do you cover your self?? I know when i have a baby, I'll go to a restroom, or a dressing room of a clothing store before i whip it out in the food court. Maybe my opinion will change when the time comes, but as of now, if you breastfeed in public, be prepared to get stared at.
