Breastfeeding moms whose children sleep through the night? |
Do you still get up to pump once a night or do you just feed on demand & go 10-12 hours without feeding? I'm thinking my son might be ready to sleep through the night soon & I don't want my supply to decrease if I sleep the whole time he does. Heck no, I don't pump at night! Your body will adjust to your son's schedule. The first few times he sleeps through you'll probably be engorged (and might want to pump a little in the morning), but your body will quickly adapt. I don't pump during the night and it is about 12 hours between his last feeding of the night and first feeding of the morning. Your supply will only decrease to the needed level...in fact it won't really decrease at all. When babies sleep through the night without nursing, they generally make up for it during the day, either by wanting to nurse more frequently or consuming more when they nurse. Stop the night time pumping and get some sleep...you may want to sleep on a towel until your body adjusts, just in case of leaks! My daughter is 11 months old and is just starting to sleep through the night. I have just been going without pumping. I could probably pump in the middle of the night because of how full I am in the mornings but I've just been sleeping through the night with her and not waking up. My supply hasn't decreased any and I'm still able to pump the same amount whild I'm at work during the day. Yes. I get up between 3 and 4 am and pump while my daughter is asleep. I pump four times a day...once in the early morning while she sleeps, right before her morning feeding at 8:30am, once at lunchtime at work and once after he evening feeding between 10-11pm. I feed her at 8:30am, 7:30pm and between 10-11pm. She will sometimes get up between 6-7am and I will feed her then as well. my son is out by about 10pm and so i pump the side he didnt eat off of. then i go to sleep. Sometimes he wakes up once so i pick a boob and fed him. the otherone i just leave alone even tho its a bit full. ill fed off that one when he wakes up fully in the morn around 830-9am.. if he sleeps thro the night witch he does 80% of the time i wake up pretty engorged but i fed him off one boob then pump the other.. hasnt effected my supply at all and i get some nice sleep. my son is 8weeks old and sleeps in a basinet by the bed It won't decrease. By the time the baby sleeps through the night, the supply and demand is established. Provided you feed frequently during the day, there's no need to worry about what is happening at night. Just be relieved that you're getting sleep. I used to pump before I went to sleep late at night. I was going back to work so I needed to keep up the supply. Your body will adjust accordingly to his sleep cycle. You will learn to produce more during the day than at night. Just remember to feed once he wakes in the morning. Hope this helps! I pumped before I went to bed when my son started sleeping longer through the night. I didn't wake up in the middle of the night to pump...but my son got up pretty early so it wasn't quite 10 hours between feedings. As long as he's getting what he wants during the day your supply will adjust. i've had to pump in the middle of the night to get enough for my LO's feeds while i'm at work. but now i just try & get her to bed a little earlier and pump about an hour after her last nursing session. You don't have to get up and pump. This will just make your body think the baby is needing to feed during the night and your body will then produce more milk. Your body will adjust to the longer period of sleep. Enjoy it!! my youngest son was sleeping 12 by 8 weeks and my 4 month old also sleeps 12 hours and I have never got up to pump. I just nurse on demand and have never had supply issues. Can you squeeze in an extra session in the day to make up for it? Or go to bed a little later and pump right at bedtime? |
