How long does it take to train a baby not to bite whilst breastfeeding?

I have a nine and a half month old and i am trying the flicking cheek method at the moment. Just wondered how long it will take for him to get the message as i am dreading every feed at the moment!

My ob actually recommended that if my baby bit to pull her in closer to me so that he nose got blocked and she would pull away on her own since she can't bite and inhale at the same time. It worked, and I only had to do it twice. Sounds cruel to some, but it worked quickly. Good luck!

About 2 days, give or take.

If the flicking doesn't work, end the nursing session immediately.

As soon as you start to feel them relax and bite down, say, "No biting." If he still bites, end the nursing session. Unlatch him and say "No biting. If you bite you can't nurse." They get the message pretty quickly. Don't react too forcefully, you don't want a nursing strike on your hands.

Sometimes they have a stuffy nose which makes it harder for them to nurse and they might accidentally bite more, make sure he's not sick or has some other problem where he can't breath out of his nose.

It shouldn't take longer than a few days, but I wouldn't recommend flicking his cheek. I really don't think that is going to get you anywhere unless he is one of the few kids that is very upset by it.

When he bites take him off the breast for a few seconds and say "No" (firmly not loudly if possible). The second time the baby bites say "no" put him down and look away or walk away for 1-2 minutes. NO attention, NO eye contact, nothing.

The baby learns very quickly that not only dose biting = no food it also doesn't get them any attention either. You have to use the right currency and for a 9 month old food, comfort, and attention is everything. Being flicked on the cheek they probably don't care (think of how many injuries they get in a day)

Firstly they are called milk teeth for a reason.

Secondly whelp means to BIRTH, which if you knew anything about anything you would know. So maybe you should keep your ignorance to yourself?

Hey Sons,
Firstly sweet, don't listen to what that stupid '3 heart' girl said....I don't care how many crappy thumbs ups she got. She is very wrong.

Secondly, you're doing a great job with him and I'm sure he'll stop biting when you've got no nipps left!! Heehee!

I just said no and took it away. But my baby had two teeth at 41/2 months so I ended up switching to formula. Baby's can tell from the tone in your voice if your happy or not. So just try saiing something to let them know they did something wrong

Say no and end the feeding. I haven't heard of flicking the cheek, that sounds like a bite waiting to happen, ouch.

If he bites say NO & end the feeding..

My son still has no teeth but this is what i plan on doing. I would be so scared too!!! Good Luck

God Bless

Come On!
If it has teeth, it can eat solids.
Maybe baby is hinting to you through biting (no more breast mom)?

NOTE: that is how dogs know when to whelp.
