What do I need to buy for breastfeeding? |
I am going to breast feed and I know I have MONTHS to get ready but I am going ahead and making my list for things we need to buy! This is my 2nd baby but I didnt not get to breastfeed my son. SO what all do I need to buy?? If you will be staying at home with your baby, all you really 'need' to buy are some nursing and/or sports bras. (Yeah, you can nurse in a regular bra, or go braless, but one that gives easier access to the breast is much more practical.) A nursing bra or two would be helpful, but not a necessity. If you will be going to work, or leaving the baby to be watched by someone else, you should buy a pump and I think gerber makes the bags that go right into the bottle but they have a zip lock thing on top so you can freeze the milk. There are the cottony nursing pads, to absorb leaks, but my personal favorite are lilypadz. They are sort of rubbery and clear, you cant see them under your shirt and they are reusable, they stick on just around your nipples, and create some sort of suction so you don't leak, they are amazing! : ).Good luck and congrats! The two most importanat things you can use for breast feeding are the nursing bra and a nursing pillow. A pump may be a good idea, even if its a little manual one. You might want to keep some breast milk in the freezer and buy a bottle or two in case of extreme emergency, like if you get hurt and the baby needs to eat. Really nothing, that's the pleasure in nursing a baby. But, nursing bras are easier then regular ones - wait until your 8th month to get fitted. The best bra for you may not be what is perfect for others as it depends on your cup size and your manner of nursing, get a few different kinds and try them out the first couple weeks of nursing. JCPenney's is a good source, as is Lady Grace if you're a larger cup size. Medela's are probably the best, Wacoal the prettiest, and there are others that will work just as well. Congrats on breastfeeding! Make sure you buy nursing pads, and like you mentioned, a nursing bra. Victoria's Secret actually has a new line of nursing bras, so you could check those out if you want something sexy. A breastpump would help tremendously, especially if you'd like your baby to have milk even when you leave him/her with a sitter or dad. Ameda Purely Yours is a great pump, but it's expensive. Also breastmilk storage bags would be great, and some nursing tops if you want to nurse in public. When your milk comes in it is going to hurt, so you could try to find a soothing gel nursing pad for those days. Ameda makes them. And also nipple cream for cracking. Yum! Good luck! best nursing bras are from motherhood. also buy lilly padz nursing pads! a breast pump...although i never used mine. and storage milk bags. i would buy cream for cracked nipples. maternity stores for bras (whatever is comfy, you'll need to try on everything). Breast pads, pumps, bottles Pads for your soft bra while sleeping. Otherwise you will wake up in a puddle of milk. :P BREASTS r free of course :) |
