Will breastfeeding stop my baby boy from getting sick?

I have got this horrible flu from my grubby family and I have an 8 week old who is breastfeeding, Im really paranoid that he is going to get sick from me so paranoid to the point I dont want to breathe near him. Is breastfeeding any gurantee that he wont get ill?

No guarantee, there's no such thing

BUT, in your milk, your baby is getting the antibodies YOU are making to fight the flu, isn't that amazing?

I nursed my son on the flu & he didn't get it, relax.

God Bless

No gurantee he wont, but breast milk will certianly help he immune system! Look I took my baby at 9 days old to the hospital as he has temp and all the other kids had tonsititis even hubby , the Doctor advised my that alot of antiboidies stay in the baby's system and "majority" of babies will not contract anything like flu, tonsilitis etc until 3 months onwards, even greater if breastfeeding !
I got the flu shot this year and made the rest of the family to just to help prevent us passingnothing on to him, but i have had sneezing blocked nose, kids had cough and he hasnt got anything yet !
good luck

Babies and children get sick no matter what, but bottlefed babies get sick more frequently, and more severely than breastfed babies.

Definitely keep breastfeeding anytime that you are sick, because your body makes antibodies to fight the illness that get passed on to the baby in the breastmilk, so it actually makes him LESS likely to get sick with whatever is making you sick.

Breastfeeding will strengthen your baby's immunity, so if he does have a cold he will get over it easily. Why don't you wear a mask like they do in Japan when they have a cold-get your family to wear them too when they are near your baby or keep your baby away from them-make sure your hands are clean when you handle baby-mucous from coughing and sneezing carries germs.

While breastmilk cannot completely prevent your child from getting sick, feel good in the knowledge that breastfed babies do tend to have better immunity than their formula fed counterparts. Breastmilk is full of antibodies that help strengthen a baby's immature immune system, thus fewer infections, colds, etc.

Not a gurantee but it will definalty help....you are suppose to keep nursing while you are sick to help build up antibodies in your baby.....Hope you get to feeling better Having a new baby and being sick really sucks!!!!

It may not keep him from getting sick, but there will be antibodies in your milk that will help to inoculate him against this virus. Hopefully, if he gets sick he will get a less severe case.

no, but he's already been exposed, may as well give him the antigens your body has produced... he won't be as sick for as long, likely.

Dear,
There are natural anties in MOTHER Milk. So you don't need to worry. You can carry on Breastfeeding.
Your Baby will be ok.
Take care

During breast feeding, your baby will be the healthiest and strongest..BUT does not mean he won't get sick...he will just be able to get over it faster and easier.....HUGS!!

No guarantee but that is how your baby gets his/her immune system built up is from breast milk.
