Do any other breastfeeding mums have problems sleeping?

My Dr said that I should be feeling very sleepy after a breastfeed (due to hormones at letdown) but at night I can't sleep for around 4 hours (thus why I'm always on Yahoo Answers). I sleep for approximately 3 hours a night and the result is I'm like a zombie during the day and can't handle even rocking my 6 week old to sleep.

Anyone else experience this?

I also have never gotten sleepy from nursing. If anything it wakes me up. I only sleep during the night for about 4-5 hours and then the baby and I take a nap but I still feel exhausted. My daughter sleeps the whole night she no longer gets up for a feeding and I only pump once over night and I dont know what it is.

I do, but I have insomnia from a past medication. According to my shrink he's telling me bipolar and I have been taking Trazodone at night to help me sleep. It works great and I'm able to sleep. But if you don't have a condition like mine (I'm getting a second opinion because my father who has a degree in Phsycology states I'm more ADHD and not even close to Bi-Polar) then you need a prescription med to help you sleep.

I know this is hard, but sleep as much as your baby sleeps. I didn't do this for the first couple of weeks, but let me tell you, I did by the end of the first month. Because I was only nursing (i'm formula feeding and nursing now) the first 2 months, taking my meds at night was brutal because my daughter was up every 1 hour for a feeding. I was a zombie during the day taking meds at night and not getting the sleep needed.

Good luck

stop using the computer so often, and start maybe reading a book at night. I read magazines and do crosswords puzzles, helps me sleep - the t.v and the computer on before bed time isnt healthy for you . Anyways congrats the baby...

Im a mother of a 2 week old baby and a 5 year old..

I had a very hard time sleeping in the begining but it turned out to be PPD, and nothing to do with breastfeeding.

yes i have insomnia and breastfeeding has never made me sleepier. i wish it did.
