How do I get my breastfeeding daughter....? |
My daughter breastfeeds (mainly pacifies) all night. How do I get her off the breast at night and sleeping in her own bed? She is 8mos now, therefore doesn't require middle of the night feedings. She will not take an artificial nipple for some reason. Perhaps because she exclusively breastfeeds? HA! I laugh at the people who think your 8 month old breastfed baby will take a pacifier at this age. What a crock. To break her off this habit you will need to find an alternative way to put her to sleep that works for the both of you. It could be rocking, singing a song, reading a book, walking around, or a simple pat on the back. She won't like it at first and may cry for a while but be strong, you can do it! This is a great question... My 3 1/2 year old nursed until he was 2 1/2... and like your child, slept with me and woke for many night feedings. I let him wean himself... just because it was not that big of a hassle for me. Mine almost seven mo. old does the same. She's not exclusively breastfed and I still let her. I can't stop her. It doesn't feel right. (She has never took to a paci and I continue to give her one to help her teething....) I agree with the other lady, my daughter has a paci and when it falls out...I watch her lil hand feel around for it. It's the cutest little thing to see. If she can't find it, I have gotten surprised with a sudden suckle in the middle of the night LOL. PACIFIER! It's a lifesaver, and at her age, she can pick it up and put it back in her mouth if it falls out. |
