If you got your period while breastfeeding please help!!

How did you cope with the low supply during your cycle? My milk supply drops severely every month. I do everything to get it back up...I nurse my son almost constantly, I consume more water, eat oatmeal, take fenugreek etc. It takes at least a week and half to get back to normal. I have to give him an ounce or two of expressed milk a couple times a day during that time so he doesn't starve. I need to get my supplly up quick because I only have like a 10 oz stash in the freezer and that won't last a week and a half and I don't want to supplement with formula....Please Help!

diggs, while I do appreciate your advice, my son lost weight before I figured it was a supply issue about 2 months ago. Unfortunately it is not a growth spurt.

i thought i was the only one this happened to..this is what i did, my doc said more water and more calories, malta as said above works but i did a guiness. the first day of ur period, right after the first feeding of the day pump a little, then some oatmeal and the guinness (i know its wierd but swear it really works). Do this every other day of ur cycle it should help, p.s u should try to pump a little after every feeding b/c it boosts the milk supply up a notch and this way you can get a little xtra milk on reserve

My milk supply didnt let up at all during periods. But you can talk to your doctor about reglan. it is a medication that can be used too increase breast milk supply. i dont think it would hurt to take it even if it is just 2 weeks of the month that your breast milk is low.

but again talk to your doctor.

Oh honey do I know what you are going thru...
I pump as often as I can. I also pump after She has gone to sleep. I can usually get a full bottle of I pump twice during the night.
I also drink Malta & that seemed to help. Any kind of brew even beer.
During the time while you aren't on your period pump & freeze. That was what got me thru the last time my milk went down.
good Luck & don't give up!

Babies go through growths spurts quite regularly, is it just happening around the time of your period to make you think that you have low milk supply. When babies go through growth spurts, it seems like your body can't produce enough milk, but milk works on a supply and demand basis.

Try taking more milk plus by motherlove. it's a combo of fenugreek, blessed thistle etc. (all things that help increase milk.) I took it and it really helped. i think it helps more than just plain fenugreek. i have low milk issues and it helped.
