Paragard and breastfeeding? |
I had paragard placed on Aug 1st 8weeks after having my second daughter and my dr said it may trigger a period for me. I bled for approx 3-4 days. (I'm also exclusively breastfeeding) I'm wondering do I consider this my period. The reason I ask is the patient info on paragard says that it will cause longer heavier periods. My cycles are usually 7-10 days and are pretty heavy fro the first few days, and the bleeding I experienced after placement was very light and only 3-4 days like I said. Even though paragard is supposed to be highly effective I DO NOT want to get pregnant anytime soon so Id like to still keep track of my periods. Has anyone had paragard and EBF, did you get your period, what was your experience like? Thanks i have paraguard and had it put it in while i was exclusively pumping. it caused some bleeding for me (similar to yours), but i think it was just "mid-cycle" bleeding, which my doctor said I would have. it came at odd times of the month and wasn't very predictable. i don't think i got an actual period until i was about 5 months postpartum and had stopped pumping. but, who knows...it's so hard to tell, as you said!! the paraguard IS really effective, so i wouldn't worry about it too much. I LOVE paraguard by the way, good choice! |
