What does it mean when your period returns during breastfeeding

My son is now 7 months old. I've been breastfeeding him since birth. The other day my period returned. (Man I haven't seen this for over a year!!!!!!!!!) But, it only lasted for two days and oddly enough the pain I was feeling in my nipples for the last week is now gone. Breastfeeding is more comfortable again.

Question:
1. Is it okay to breastfeed still or while menstrating?
2. Was the soreness due to mentrating?
3. Am I more likely to get pregnant now?

thanks!

That your not breastfeeding exclusively??

1. Yes you can still breastfeed.
2. Yes, the soreness may have been due to your period (PMS, you know).
3. Yes, you are more likely to get pregnant now if you were to have unprotected sex. You didn't know it at the time, but a couple of weeks ago, you started ovulating once again. Since the egg was not fertilized, your period has now started. Until that point a couple of weeks ago, you probably had not ovulated while breastfeeding, and so your chance of getting pregnant was pretty low (unless of course you had started ovulating earlier - because remember, ovulation comes before period, and you never know when you will start ovulating again...for all you knew, it could have happened at 3 months instead of 7).

Time to get on some sort of birth control (your doctor can recommend something that is okay for breastfeeding women), or at least use condoms - unless you want to be pregnant again that is.

It is absolutely fine to continue breastfeeding. Although some women do not see a return of their period until weaning, many women get their periods back even though they are still nursing. You might find that your period is not regular right away, skipping a month here and there, but it also could resume as normal.

The soreness was likely related to having your period.

And yes, you can definitely get pregnant. As long as you are ovulating, your odds are as good as they ever were. Use birth control if you are not interested in getting pregnant.

It is completely normal for you to have your period even while breastfeeding.

1. It is absolutely okay for you to still breastfeed.
2. It could have been, especially since you have been breastfeeding for quite a while, otherwise I would have mentioned that maybe the child wasn't latched on correctly, because breastfeeding doesn't hurt if done properly.
3. You are likely to get pregnant even without your period. Just because you don't have your period does not mean you aren't ovulating.

Hope this helps!! Congrats on the little one!

1. Yes, it is perfectly ok to breastfeed while menstruating. (The 'average' time for return of periods is around 9 months -- and the usual recommended minimim time for breastfeeding is 12 months.) Some mothers find that their supply dips a bit during their periods, but it will rebound again once the bleeding stops.

2. Yes, the hormonal changes that accompanied your period could have made you sore.

3. Once you start having periods you should assume that you are fertile again and so yes, you can get pregnant. If you don't want to be, use contraception.

1. Yes it's just fine. You might find that your baby will eat a bit more because your supply might dip just a bit around the time of your period although this doesn't happen to everyone.

2. Most likely especially if you found that your breasts were normally more sensitive during that time.

3. Yes you are for sure ovulating again so be careful.

Yes you are more likely to get pregnant.
Yes it is absolutely ok to breast feed and still have a period.
all women are different and breastfeed may or may not keep your periods from coming back. my son was full time breastfed and I still got my period 6 weeks after I gave birth.
the soreness was probably from the period too.

1. YES!
2. Probably
3. You can get pregnant anytime.

It honestly means that God is a man. My period returned when my daughter was 3 months old - I was exclusively breastfeeding her. It sucks!! I feel for you!

1. Yes it is fine to nurse
2. most likely
3. YES...you can get pregnant

1. Yes its normal
2. Yes it probably was
3. Wouldnt you know the answer to that after having a baby?

1. yes perfectly fine
2. yes
3. of course
