I'm a breastfeeding mama...and i have a few questions.?

first, i kinda have sore nipples, not from improper latch, i'm just still getting used to breast feeding. is there a way to help with the soreness?

also my daughter who is 11 days old, seems to just attach herslef to me sometimes, not really eat, just hang out there. is that normal?

yay, congrats! bf-ing is so much fun and I'm glad you're doing it.

it's normal to have sore nips, and I used lanolin cream (lansinoh makes some that's in a purple tube) to help with the soreness - it's safe for baby to put in her mouth too, so you can use it anytime (usually right after the shower is a good time). I used this once a day for a little while and after about 3 weeks I didn't have to use it all the time. they'll toughen up soon.

if your baby is "using you as a pacifier," that's completely normal too. it's actually good, because she's building up your supply to meet her needs. don't be surprised if she does this a lot in the first few weeks - mine would nurse every 20 minutes for a half an hour to an hour...and would scream if I tried to pull him off! he wanted to suck. don't give her a pacifier, let her use you.

congrats and good luck! nursing is amazing.

there are creams and lotions out there. My daughter caused me to bleed but when I tried the lotions she didn't like the taste, though it said tasteless, so I couldn't use that, I just had to suffer through. now as for the second question, yes that is normal but you need to break her of it or she will start using you as a pacifier and it will get old really quick...some people say do not give a nursing baby a pacifier it will cause nipple confusion but my daughter never had that problem and had a pacifier from the time she was first brought home from the hospital at 2 days old.

Totally normal, and totally normal.

Although if you continue to be sore you will need to consider your latch, even though u think it is ok now. Try Lasinoh Cream, it works and soothes, as far as the attachment part, that is a natural part of breastfeeding intially. You are their soothing and comfort. It is part of the reason you are sore, but your daughter loves it.

Lansinoh will help with the nipple pain. There's nothing you can do really for that soreness you get when she first latches on. Her mouth is creating a vacuum and until you get used to that feeling, it is going to be painful for the first 30 seconds or so of nursing. You won't even notice it in a few more weeks though.
And it's totally normal for her to just want to attach herself to you. It's bonding time for her, and she just wants your warmth. My son is 5 months old and he still does this from time to time.

Hi there - I had the same problem with bleeding and cracking as well - EXTREMELY painful! I regularly visited the breastfeeding clinic and the dr. prescribed an organic cream for me - on the label it was just called nipple cream, and it almost had a whipped texture to it - not sticky at all, because I did find the lansinoh to be sticky. It was safe for the little guy and I felt better almost immediately - it was some kind of miracle cream for sure!! Hope this is helpful!

LOL....I think thats all normal. My son is 2 weeks and 3 days old....his latch is fine too, but even though I'm using lansinoh on my nipples they are still a little sore. The lady at wic said around 3 or 4 months it should be totally painless. I must say that they feel a LOT better than the first week or so...Also, my son just chills on the boob sometimes too and falls asleep sometimes! I just rub his head or his ears and neck or play with his feet and he usually will start eating again. I have to do this like 3 or 4 times sometimes during a feeding.

For the soreness you can buy Lanolin nipple creme..Medela or Lanisoh brand is good. But dont worry the soreness will die down soon.

Yes it is totally normal, for her to just kind of hang there..its definately for comfort..and that too will change over time..once she is more interested in toys and playing..she'll most likely not want to comfort nurse as often.

Congrats on your new baby girl!

Sounds very normal. She just wants to feel close to her mum! Express/squeeze out a little milk after she's finished feeding and rub it over you nipple and areola and let it air dry. It takes about 4-5 mins but really really helps! And it's all natural : )

You can try lansinoh cream for breastfeeding moms. I have to use a nipple shield because my nipples are small, it also hurts less. At first my son would just hang out there, not so much anymore. Good job deciding to breastfeed your little one!

This stuff is the best for nipple cream instead of just forming a moisture barrier it will actually heal your nipples. And it's completely normal for her to hang out on the nipple if you want to let her.
