What are the chances of getting pregnant while breastfeeding?

well... see me and my boyfriend just had a child almost six months ago and im not looking to be preggerz and time soon.. we did the "deed" and yes we where using protection! but the comdom failed (crap!!!) as soon as i realized i quickly through in some spermicadal foam (which i know is supposed to be incerted first but we where using a condom!!!) how likely is it for me to become pregnant????? HELP PLEASE!!

i have a 9.5 mth old and am 28wks prego. granted it will be hard on your body (as it is mine) but i wouldnt change it.

we did use condoms however as you said the condom failed...ours broke.

Like all contraception is not 100%- You can still become pregnant while breastfeeding- you need to be feeding every on a schedule eg every 2 hours, every 4 hours (but no longer than 4hours). If you child sleeps through the night or doesnt feed for longer than 4 hours you can guarantee breastfeeding wont be an affective form of contraception.

Now you will just have to wait to take a test to find out.

Are you on the mini-pill?
I asked my doctor what are the chances of falling pregnant while breastfeeding, she told me that even if I breastfeed exclusively I can still get pregnant so I went on the mini pill as a extra back- up plan. At this time you can't rely on your periods being late, so your best option would be to wait a bit then take a pregnancy test. But in the mean time, if you are not on the mini pill, ask your doctor to prescibe it for you.

well i was reading a book today on breast feeding as a contraceptive ok and it says for it to be efficient they have to be fully breast feed, feeding or expressing every 4 hours for the nipple stimulation for the release of the hormone that stops u getting pregnant, BUT i fed my son bf till well he's 16 months i never got a period till 11 months then fell pregnant 2 weeks later we used little to no protection most times all the best l8rs

Apparently you are most fertile after having a baby.
its a 50/50 shot, do you know if you would be ovulating?
I know you don't get your period and your already got the breast tenderness, but look for other signs.
You can always go get a blood test.
Hopefully you won't get pregnant, just hope and stay positive.

The same chance as if you're not on any form of birth control,which you aren't if you're breastfeeding. I'd strongly advise using condoms! Because many women,many have become pregnant soon after giving birth. You're very fertile during that time.

Breastfeeding can be used as a sort of birth control but it's not that reliable.

You can still become pregnant while breastfeeding.

It can very well happen. A friend of mine got pregnant while breastfeeding her 6 month old baby.

yes it's likely for you to get pregnant even if your breast feeding,because you still ovulate.
