I had my baby 4 days ago and started with formula, can i start breastfeeding now?

i had a c-section and iv been taking strong meds for pain, that is why i started with formula but i think il be ready to breastfeed in a couple days, who has switched this late and did the baby like it and did your breasts still produce milk?

Yep. You can definitely start breastfeeding, better late than never;) In fact, some women even breastfeed adopted babies starting at 6 months or even later.

Put the baby to the breast as much as possible, pump in between if you can and give baby that milk before any formula (but after the breast). Breasts are never empty, so even ten minutes after a feed your have milk pooling again.

If you are unsure whether the meds you're on are okay to breastfeed with check out this website: http://www.drjacknewman.com/help/Breastf... and if you still want to wait then at least start pumping that milk now to get those breasts producing:)

ALso lots of skin to skin contact with your baby will help stimulate the milk, not to mention the love and bonding - it's such a chore:)

Your hospital should have lactation consultants to help you, or contact your local breastfeeding association for support. (links below)

Congratulations on your new baby, enjoy:)

I had my baby by scheduled c section on monday 4/20!!
I am taking norco every 4 hours for pain as well. I also had problems breast feeding and had formula fed while in the hospital but when I left the hospital I asked for a breast pump and have been producing a lot of milk that I have been feeding through the bottle but I am attempting to get her to start to breastfeed.
Yes it is possible and I strongly suggest a breast pump because even if you cannot get herup to your breast than at least she is getting all of the nutrients and antibodies through the breastmilk.
Good luck and congrats!!

sure, I started breastfeeding and it took a little bit longer for my milk to come in, like 2-3 days extra but i also just had my son latch on and nurse for a few minutes to stimulate milk production and then i would supplement him with formula. It ended up that I couldn't produce enough milk even when I was exclusively breastfeeding so I eventually switched to formula but yes as long as you nurse him you will start to produce milk. :)

absolutely! make sure to nurse often to stimulate your milk flow. I didn't start late, but I know you can. Don't worry about starving your baby, it should get what it needs. Between feeding and when you get time, PUMP. This really gets it going. You will need to be persistant and it will work for you!! Good luck and happy bfing!

You can still produce milk. Just start trying to get her to latch and maybe try pumping. Pumping will trigger your milk to come in as well as the baby trying to feed.

I haven't ever breast fed. But I do know that as long as your baby is emptying your breast milk, it will continue to fill up. Or so I've read in books/magazines.
