Breastfeeding moms: How long did it take to get your period back? |
My husband and I wanted to get pregnant again right away (after six months), but I haven't gotten my cycles back yet. I wanted to continue nursing until the age of two, what are my chances of getting pregnant before my son is weaned? For women who are completely nursing on demand and the child gets no supplements they can go for at least 6 months without a period. After that the introduction of foods decrease the feedings and therefor the menstrual cycle will return after that. But everyone is different, some women get their periods right away and some don't. My son just turned 4 months and I got my period on Sunday. Every woman is different, but as your son starts supplementing with solids you might see it return if it has not. Wow you want to breast feed till your son is two. Good for you. Don't worry you can get preganat even if you are not having your peirod that's why I'm on the pill. I want to wait 3 years. So just start trying for another when you feel like it. I've been exclusively breastfeeding for 3 months and I'm actually on my second period since giving birth. Breastfeeding doesn't stop periods for everyone. And even though you're not having periods, you can still get pregnant. I can't give you a time frame because your body will do what it wants to, plus I'm not a doctor LOL. with my first 2 i didnt get it back for the entire time i was breastfeeding, and now i have an almost 8 month old and still have not started my cycle yet. I can tell you that with my second i got pregnant right after i stopped breastfeeding my first. i only had one really strange short period and then was pregnant. Well you can still possibly get pregnant while breastfeeding but its a slim chance. When you do become pregnant you have to to stop breastfeeding because it causing uterine contractions which could harm the baby in your belly. But your doctor will tell you that when the time comes. Good Luck! i got my period back at 7.5 months, when i went back to work part time and started pumping some. after he starts eating more solids and breastfeeding less, you might get it back. you also might not until you stop completely but you can stll get pregnant before you start bleeding I got my period back after my son started eating solid foods for a while, so around 7 months, but I continued to breastfeed till 12 months. The less you nurse the better your chances are of getting your period. I got mine after 2 months of bf, because I went back to work. my dd is 7 months and i have not had one yet. i nurse her full time. i am wondering when i will get one as well. Well it's been nearly 10 months and no period yet. i remember my wife telling me it took her 3 months. idk but she said it took that LONG |
