I'm nursing and well my breasts are always super swollen. When I do try to do a breast exam I feel knots everywheres but I've read that those are the milk ducts. How can I properly check, or truly know if I have something else going on like a cancerous tumor?
Forget breast exams while nursing....you are right the knots are the milk glands and ducts. Picture a group of grapes still on their vine, that's what your breasts are like on the inside right now....Once you have nursed for a while, like six months, the swelling will reduce and the breasts will become softer. Then you can begin to do self exams again...Also, once you have nursed, your breast tissue changes....So things you once felt or didn't feel in your breast could have changed....the thing to look for is a nodule that does not moved when you manipulate it, one that does not hurt when you manipulate it, those are the ones to worry about...Pay special attention to the area of the breast close to you underarm. This is where most breast cancers occur.....Hope this helps..... you're not really going to be able to feel anything while you're engorged. Try nursing and pumping off all you can prior to your exam, but you'll still feel the milk ducts.
