Is it ok to take diet pills while breastfeeding? |
Is it ok to take diet pills while breastfeeding? My OBGYN cautioned me that 1% of everything breastfeeding Moms eat or drink gets into breast milk so he is against any medication (including herbal) stronger than ADVIL. I too am breastfeeding & although BF burns an addition 500 calories per day BF Moms also must eat much more to support their milk supply & growing child so it isn't as easy to lose the weight as people think. I am still not down to my pre-preganncy weight after 11 onths & I work out 4-5 times per week. Just wait until after BF is complete. Your baby is m ore imporatnt thean the extra pounds right now. You won;t be BF for ever-just wait. I would ask your doctor. I dont think it is because pretty much anything you take or eat will transfer to your baby. Some foods will give your baby gas or diarrhea, so be careful! absolutely NOT NO! unless you want your baby taking diet pills too. breastfeeding alone will help you lose weight. it burns 450 calories a day if you child is exclusively breastfed. just remember to eat healthy and you and your child will thrive! No. Whatever you consume, so does your baby. Breastfeeding is a good way to lose weight in itself. I read that you should consume 500 more calories per day when you breastfeed. www.babycenter.com Probably not, unless your doctor prescribed them and knows you're breastfeeding. If it's over the counter junk, don't bother. It's a waste of money. Breastfeeding helps you lose weight--it's designed to do so by nature. You burn 500 or more extra calories a day. That's a pound a week lost if you don't eat extra to make up for it. |
