Is is safe to take tylenol pm while breastfeeding a 2 month old? |
Is is safe to take tylenol pm while breastfeeding a 2 month old? Ok this is kind of convoluted BUT I am sure you know that tylenol is safe during breastfeeding. The other ingredient in Tylenol PM is "Diphenhydramine HCl". This is also the ingredient in Benadryl. According to this site, which I very much trust Benadryl is safe during lactation (: http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/cold... It says according to Hale which is THE SOURCE for breastfeeding safety (and sadly mostly only available to doctors and pharmacists, and second hand through the web) it is rated L2 which is "safer" it is the second safest category (L1 safest is best) (Scroll down to the chart to see the drug name and the safety rating instead of just "benadryl") The other great resource on that site is this page http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/aap-... Which lists many other medications that are approved by the AAP for breastfeeding moms, and their rating per Hale (and pregnancy risk category) Source(s): Also during business hours(EST) this is an awesome resource, dial a 10-10 number and it will cost less than $2: Motherisk's Home Line - (416) 813-6780 - for information about the risk or safety of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, herbal products, chemicals, x-rays, chronic disease and infections during pregnancy. [This is a toll call to our Toronto call centre. Callers may have to wait up to 10 minutes to speak to a counsellor.] These Helplines are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST (I know it only says pregnancy but they do breastfeeding too) No, it will pass through your milk. That baby is too young to have that kind of medicine in his system. Nursed three little girls maby it will help the baby to go to sleep faster!! actualy it should be fine. it only has a light sedetive and will not afect your baby In moderation, it should not hurt the baby. Try taking just one instead of two. I took them while I was breastfeeding. Most of it is broke up before it gets to your breastmilk. I posted a link so you can read more. THe AAP approved that it is fine to take while nursing! http://parenting.ivillage.com/baby/bbrea... |
