Hay fever remedies, during pregnancy/breastfeeding? |
Can anybody recommend any hay fever remedies that are suitable while pregnant? My local pharmacy and herbalist have not been able to help. I've been regularly rinsing my eyes and nose through the day but it's just not enough at times. Many thanks I also have hayfever and am 27 weeks pregnant. The nasal spray and eye drops are completely safe and pretty effective, so speak to your doctor about getting a prescription. I have also used homeopathic remedies - Boots and Nelsons. They are pretty good, although you might need to try a couple to find the one that suits you best. Eating local honey is also a great treatment for hayfever but as you're pregnant make sure its the pasturised stuff. Hope this helps The only safe thing I would recommend for hayfever during pregnancy is homeopathy. Ask at your local pharmacy. They may be able to recommend a homeopathic hayfever preparation. If your GP will prescribe a homeopathic remedy he or she could prescribe Mixed Grasses 30c tablets and you could take one twice a day for a month. There are other possible homeopathic hayfever remedies but they need to be prescribed according to your own symptoms - if your GP would refer you to a local homeopathic doctor then that would help. I can understand your situation; I have severe allergies, and had to deal with flare-ups a number of times while I was carrying my son. Unfortuantely, there's not much you can do other than what you're already doing. Many antihistimines have a known risk of problems for your baby, particularly in the first and last trimesters. Unless your doctor is convinced that the benefit outweighs the risk substantially, I'd do my best to tough it out. Good luck. If allergy medicine like Claritin are off your list then used to use a cold wet cloth across the front on my face to dry up the running and reduce the swelling. It helped especially at night. life Sorry to say it but avoid any anti-histamines. Try a tonic to boost your immune system. I found raspberry leaf tea was great whilst I was preg. Just snorted Vicks vapo-rub for a blocked nose....Good luck. Only medication you can use is homeopathic medication. I had hay fever earlier in my pregnancy and the pharmacist gave me COMBIN ASSIST tissue salts - Allergy that really worked for me... |
