How do you feel about women breastfeeding in public places? |
I heard a story on the news last week about new legislation in Britain, allowing women to breastfeed in public places. I didn't think It was illegal anyway, as long as decency laws weren't broken. I would never have breastfed my babies in a public place. There are so many arguments for and against this subject. Personally I dont like to see it. I know its natural but then so is making love and you wouldnt want to do that in a public place. I think there should be more places for women to feed their babies (not in public loos though) in order to encourage them to give their baby the best start in life. Maybe clothing manufacturers should try to invent some kind of shroud to cover up while feeding. What do you think? Personally I think that breastfeeding in public is acceptable, and to be encouraged (as breastfeeding should be encouraged for health reasons, and we don't want women to be chained to their home for the first year of their baby's life). I'm only uncomfortable when people do it very openly - i.e. with their boobs on display. I always tried to be discreet, and bought special breastfeeding clothes to remain covered up and not embarress small boys! Mine came from http://www.babeswithbabies.com/... but there are lots of other places selling them now I think. What do other people think? I don't like to see it either. Isn't that what breast pumps are for? I don't care. Comparing it to sex is kind of false...you can wait until you get home to have sex, but your baby won't wait until you get home to feed. I don't mind it happening in public...lots of people eat in public, why shouldn't children? If you don't like seeing it, look away. Most mothers do it very discretely anyway. Speaking as a mom who is currently nursing her 2nd child....I feel that anyone who is uncomfortable by a baby nursing should look the other way. If anyone is uncomfortable with it, they should put a blanket over their head or go eat in the bathroom. In America...if your nursing in a restaurant or store and your asked to stop or leave...that store can be sued like you wouldnt beleive. Its not illegal here, just certain morons think its gross and want to complain. But yet when they see a half naked girl on the cover of a magazine its "hott" and there is no problem what-so-ever. Why should my child be hungry and cry because your uncomfortable with my nurshing him/her? And NO breastpumps are NOT so that you dont have to nurse in public. Mom of 2. Proudly breastfed my son for 1yr Currently nursing my daughter for 7mths Without wanting to sound cliched breastfeeding is THE most natural thing in the world. There is nothing sexual or exhibitionist involved in breastfeeding in public and the narrow minded prudes who complain should be publicly humiliated for their Edwardian take on the world. Its an unusual sight seeing a woman breastfeeding in public, but why should she have to hide herself away or stay at home just because others don't like it !. I don't have a problem with it at all !!. |
