Breastfeeding Question? |
I have a two week old son and I have been nursing him but with a nipple shiel because that's the only way I'm able to get him to latch on. I was wondering if there was a way to get rid of it and get him to latch on without any help. I can't go to meetings or anything like that because I don't have a car and I also have a two year old daughter so I kind of have my hands full right now. I just would really like to nurse my son without having to use the nipple shield anymore. Okay...I realize that the shield makes things difficult. I had to use one, my daughter could not latch on-it was crazy-then I got the shield and worked like a charm. If the shield is working for the baby, then you might consider continuing to use it-GOOD LUCK. Try to look up La Leche League. They are a wealth of information on breastfeeding. Good Luck Yes, you need to lose the nipple shield. Contact your local Le leche group and have a phone conversation with the leader, they are always glad to help. lllusa.org If you call your local Le Leche League, they may have someone who would be willing to come to your house and help you. Look online for the local numbers. La Leche also has an online forum. Those ladies offer excellent advice. www.lalecheleague.org I had the same problem with my son last year. First of all, are you using the nipple shield with the little cut out...you know the one, so the baby''s nose can be up against your skin instead of the plastic shield? If not, get one of those. After using that what I used to do was let my son nurse for a couple of minutes then pull him away from the breast, quickly remove the shield and put him back. It took several times for this to work. I'm sure someone else would have better advice, but this is what worked for me. Good Luck! |
