Breastfeeding and contraceptive pill- does it affect the milk supply? |
I am only 22 wks but I am lookig to go back on the birth control pill after it as I have also a 8 month old. Before pregnancy I used Yasmin it agreed with my body as other pills did not- but i'm wondering if anybody has experienced it through breast feeding and will it reduce my milk supply, or do you have any knowledge on it? Thankyou to all that answer. Talk to your doctor about it. I know that when I breastfed I was given the mini pill which is progesterone only. Estrogen can reduce your milk supply so Yasmin might not be good if you are going to breastfeed. I chose an IUD after my 3rd because even on the mini pill and breastfeeding I became pregnant. The problem I had with taking a pill was that for it to be the most effective it had to be taken at the same time everyday which didn't always happen. Source(s): Mom of 3, all breastfed yes some will, let your ob know that you plan on breastfeeding. There are two brands of pills that will not dry you up. There is a special pill called the mini pill which they give to mothers who plan on breast feeding. It does not contain as much of a hormone as the other pills but works as just as effective it doesnt affect milk supply because contraceptive pill control ovulation(it stop ovulation period) at the time You breast your Baby. It doesnt affect milk supply because contraceptive pill control ovulation (it stop ovulation period) at the time you breast your baby. My doc would not let me take any form of BC pill while breastfeeding my 2nd child, because they can affect the baby and milk supply. I am currently breastfeeding my 3rd who is 5 weeks and will be in the same boat, hopefully there is something out there that I can take until I get my tubal ligation done next year. |
