I have a question about in-home caregiving for a family member.? |
My mom said that the state will pay you to be an in-home caregiver to a family member. She lives in Oregon and I live in Nebraska. I never heard of such a thing. I vow to take care of my mom instead of putting her in a nursing home when the time comes. But, can I really get money from the state as an in-home caregiver? Does this depend on the state, or do all states have that program? i believe that all states have a similar plan. i know that there is 1 in NY. my thought is that the state would pay you to take care of her ..it is cheaper for them to pay a caregiver, rather than pay a thousand dollars or more per month for her to be in a nursing home or that type of environment. Call the local social services dept, and see what they have to say. Talk to health-care professionals in the state where you plan to care for her. I've never heard of this, but I applaud your determination to help your mom when she needs it. Good for you! In Texas we have that. Check with your Metropolitan Department of Health and see what they tell you. Yes, but you have to find out all the information on what Medicare and the like covers. Call the state she lives in and find out the requirements or find out in your state if you plan on bringing her to you. The answer is yes. Go to the site I have pasted below. You can also check your state by punching in words to the search engine such as: Nebrasks in home caregiver payment by the state. Good luck http://www.sdslane.org/inhome.html... I am a caregiver and I can't get any help. I live in Ga. I could when my children were little but it was for only 2 years i think. I don't live with my mother now ,I live behind her. I also can't get Medicad because they count my sons income because he lives at home. I don't want my Mom in nursing home either. Maybe you can if there is no other income in your household. Good luck! jingles_200 |
