How do you emotionally deal with being diagnosed with cervical cancer and only be 18? |
I just found out today , I have abnormal cells that they found in a recent exam. They say that they have caught it early, so that gives me a fighting chance. So, the only thing that scares me is how to cope, if its the other way. I need some advice please. You talk to a professional counselor. Please ask your oncologist for a referral to a support group, especially one for younger women. live your life to its fullest, and take one day at a time. don't worry about the future, live in the present! i'm really sorry to that by the way, hang in there! You could find a support group for cervical cancer, or for cancer in general. it's ok hon. i was diagnosed with it at 18 too. they'll just have to remove the cells. it's terribly uncomfortable but it works. Try to relax i know its hard to do but just try and calm down and fight it ! Abnormal cells from a pap exam does not mean cancer. You might call your doctors office and ask them if they know of any local support groups that you can contact. I am hoping that you have a speedy recovery. :) Hey lady, so sorry to hear what you're going through. The only comforting things I can really say are: trust in what you believe and be confident that the doctors will take full care of you. Be happy, Laugh often, and make the best of what good you do have. First off, I want to commend you for going and getting tested. Many women your age find excuses for why they cannot go to their gynecologists. Being that you have just received this diagnosis it will take some time for you to cope with, that is completely natural and normal. Just keep in mind the (+) fact that you have caught it early so that is AMAZING. Be hopeful and optimistic because your thought process has an impact on your overall health.Good Luck ;) A support group for women with cancer your age is a wonderful idea, but family is gonna be most important now, too. 1st off, they found it VERY early...that is the hand of God and nothing more. Cervical cancer has a high rate of cure ESP if caught early, so take a deep breath, have a good all day pity party (or a whole weekend) and then read everything you can AFTER you know what kind and stage cervical cancer you have. Be happy that you have the internet today! Be happy that you will meet many other YOUNG women via the net to chat with in forums. It's OK to be frieghtened, but think of all the good you can do for the girls in your high school or college if you were to make your story into a blog on yahoo 360* and start now. Maybe even a book later on. You could actually save lives! Like any other trauma in our lives, first there's disbelief, denial, anger and then acceptance. You're young, I'll presume you're healthy otherwise, so if it's determined you do have cervical cancer you do have a wonderful chance of being well for a very long happy life! If you do find it's cancer you have to decide you WILL be well and keep that positive attitude and get through your treatments because that's what survivors do. This doesn't mean you won't have days when you think everything sucks... that's normal, believe me. You need to have faith in yourself, your family and especially your doctor. I put all my faith into my doctor and his wonderful nursing staff. I am in remission now. You should also look into support groups, books. You are lucky you caught it early. After this is over, you will absolutely be able to conquer anything that comes your way. God Bless. |
